Date: Sat Dec 07 2002 - 03:43:03 EST
Winchester VA (3:30am Sat)
As expected, a clear sky, a generally calm wind a & decent snow pack has
led to excellent radiational cooling.
Locally the record low for the date was 16. It was 15 at 12:01am, and at
2:45am it was about 10.5.
A light SSW breeze has nudged it up to a balmy 13.5º.
The Baltimore/Washington NWS office (LWX) issued two record low
statements for today's date just after midnight:
Baltimore MD 12º (old 15 in 1885)
Dulles VA (Washington) 8 (old 18 in 1977)
LWX said it would update the statements once daytime heating begins.
LWX's AFD stated that their 2am temp was 1.5º above. They thought many
co-op's would call in with sub-zero lows.
At 3am, a few stations were at 1 degree above in VA and WV, They
included Harry P (VA) (HRF); Manassas (VA); Elkins (WV)
Most other temps were in the SD's above zero to the teens. The exception
included most stations next to water bodies (in the 20's).
Temperatures will be slow to moderate the next several days, & should
remain below seasonable norms (25/48 locally).
