[STORMREPORTS] House explodes, killing 1, 17 more hurt after 10" rain in Eastern MD

Rain started falling Saturday evening and several inches had fallen when
it was done about 24 hours later in eastern MD. The hardest hit town was
Snow Hill MD, which was said to get 10", although i could not find that
town/amount listed in any NWS statement.

About 5:30pm, a gas leak was reported in a house there. Over a dozen
firefighters & other first responders were on scene when a massive
explosion was said to rip the house to shreds.

Details late Sunday evening were very sketchy, and there was no video of
the scene available. Reports said a gas worker was klled, & 17 others,
including many firefighters were burned, some serverely. The area was
evacutated several hours.

An early AP story mentioned the 10" rainfall total in it's story as
possable contributing factor.

Well summer took a hiatus, thank goodness. We have not had a 90º day
in 9 days, and have been in the 60s for daytime highs four times in the
same time period.

Sunday's high was 65 (just after midnight), with the 9am low of 58.5.
The afternoon temp hovered at 61º! Another .16" rain fell, bringing a
5 day total to .82".

On Friday, the governer issued a ban on watering of lawns in most (but
not all) of VA.
