A weather system that passed through North Dakota on
the first day of spring broke a snowfall record that
had stood in this city for more than 100 years.
Bismarck received 5.4 inches of snow between midnight
Tuesday and about noon Wednesday. That broke the
previous record for March 20 of 5.1 inches, set in
1894, said John Martin, a National Weather Service
meteorologist.
Southwestern North Dakota also got heavy snow, with
Halliday, Medora and Bowman reporting about 5 inches,
Martin said.
March and April are Bismarck's snowiest months.
