"Wind Damage Reports Coming in from the Northeast A major wind
storm caused damage all throughout the Northeast this weekend. In New
York state, trees and power lines were blown down, and many communities
are without power. In Luzerene County, Pennsylvania, an injury was
reported when a tree fell on a car. The wind storm responsible for the
widespread damage was caused by a strong pressure gradient between a high
pressure system over the middle of the nation and a low pressure system
over eastern Canada. Wind speeds as high as 132 mph were reported on the
summit of Mount Washington in New Hampshire. The winds slackened a bit
across the Northeast as high pressure arrived."
