Mother Nature wreaked havoc across Southern Ontario
this weekend, bending trees, snapping hydro lines,
blinding drivers and sending us a chilling reminder
that winter isn't over yet.
In southern Ontario, winds clocked 125 km/h in places,
bringing a drastic change in temperature.
Hydro crews were working around the clock to restore
power after 52 outages were reported across the
Greater Toronto Area.
Outside the city, 100,000 homes were left in the dark
after eight power-line towers were knocked over. About
70,000 people still didn't have power by last night.
And as many as 27,000 might not get electricity until
noon today, said Hydro One spokesperson Katherine
Kiska.
Slick roadways caused a spate of crashes across
Greater Toronto Saturday night, including a 12-car
pileup on Highway 401 at Keele St, according to the
Ontario Provincial Police. There were no serious
injuries.
