About 20:45 EST a storm moved through parts of
Northern Cumberland county in Pennsylvania effecting
the areas of Camp Hill and Mechanicsburg as well as
Metro Harrisburg. I only witnessed the storms impact
on the area of Mechanicsburg and Shiremanstown, below
is the account.
2045 hrs.....Driving north of PA route 174 from
Boiling Springs, noted heavy black low clouds to the
North-northeast of the Boiling Springs/Chrurchtown
area. Heavy and vivid CG's.
2055 hrs......Eastbound on Trindle Rd., approaching
Mechanicsburg. Vivid and frequent CG's, numerous
strikes appears to be east of the borough of
Mechanicsburg.
2100 hrs.....Intersection of Trindle Rd, & Simpson
Ferry Rd. Just turned on Simpson Ferry Road, large
blue flash and instantaneous bang, hear popping in the
wires along the road, blue-green flases from downtown
Mechanicsburg (transformers?) power lights go out as
well as light in houses.
2110-2200hrs....From Simpson Ferry Rd to
Shiremanstown, roadway partially flooded in spots due
to urban flooding. Numerous lightning strikes. 7-8
hit water tower atop General Mills plant. Flooding
also noted in parking lots around area as well as
Railroad street between Simpson Ferry Rd and Trindle
Rd in Shiremanstown.
Computers in apartment have blown modems as well as
other minor power surge damage. Extrememly heavy rain
caused flooding and ponding in areas that normally do
not recieve flooding.
