JAJPUR, India, July 22 — Swollen rivers receded
further Sunday in flood-hit Orissa, but signs of
water-borne diseases appeared in the coastal
Indian state, where muddy water has
contaminated wells in thousands of villages,
officials said. Hundreds of people thronged to
army and civilian doctors for treatment as relief
workers battled to help more than 500,000 still
marooned in flooded areas.
