The USA Disaster Situation Report
Tomorrow -- April 22, 2001
Dry line/cold front should surge northeastward during the day...trailing
south southwestward into north central Texas by late afternoon.
Thunderstorms will be ongoing at beginning of period over southwestern
Kansas within favorable low level warm advection zone. However...strong
diurnal heating along and behind surging dry line should aid in convective
development/intensification by 18z ahead of surface low...southward into New
Mexico and Oklahoma. This activity should develop quickly and race across
the central plains toward the mid Mississippi Valley Region with damaging
winds likely. Vertical shear profiles favor supercells and tornadoes are
possible. Convection should develop southward along boundary into Texas as
southern edge of upper height falls allow cap to erode by late afternoon.

The main risk area at this time runs from central and eastern Oklahoma, the
eastern 1/2 of Kansas, southeast Nebraska, central and southeastern Iowa,
and north northeastern Missouri.
