Report from Todd NC...Ashe County......Well after many days of waiting for
the Storm of the New Century it finally got here...Not with snow measured in
feet as was originally forecast but with various amounts ranging form 4
inches here in Todd, 10 inches in Banner Elk and reports of 14 inches in
some western slope areas...Several power outages have been reported..All due
to high winds..No clinging snow....Wind has been the big story of this
storm.....consistent winds in the 30 - 40 mph range...with gusts here up to
56 mph this afternoon.....Drifting snow and white-out conditions have been
the biggest problems (due to high winds and continuing light snow)...I have
some pictures posted on my web site of white-out conditions this morning as
I took my wife to work....check them out at
http://web.infoave.net/~jlparks/index.htm just click on the weather
pictures link....
For all the hype..this turned out to be nothing more than a good March Wind
Storm with a little snow mixed in for good measure here in North Western
North Carolina....
Below are a couple of our winter storm warnings for today.......
