Being a wethernut & a storm chaser I know all about severe weather &
tornadoes. Being a railfan (Trains) I know about them as well.
Well what happens when you mix the two?? You get a total disaster
esspecially when that F4 tornado comes within feet of Picking up an
Amtrak Train with almost 200 people on it.
The Amtrak train, Amtrak #20 New Orleans-Boston with stops here in
Manassas, Va. The train was a mere 10 minutes outside Tuscaloosa when
the ornado warning was issued.
Amtrak running at speed(79mph) came into Tuscaloosa as the tornado was
also entering the town. The tornado came within several hundred feet of
the train throwing 25-30 inch trees at it, along with debris.
The train stayed railed to the tracks but had extensive damage across
the engines. Amtrak #20 was held 5 hours to clear debris from the tracks
before preceeding on North.
