Re: [STORMREPORTS] Florida Severe Weather

Experiencing the same as Tom in SW Florida. Last night in Cape Coral, we had
a very late thunderstorm come in with lots of thunder and lightning and wind
up to 40 knots. Tonight a bit earlier around 7PM EDT, storms moved in first
hitting Lehigh Acres in eastern Lee County dumping 4.75 inches of rain.
Later the storms moved into the coastal areas of Lee County with a
spectacular lightning show (we are the lightning capital of the world). Last
night (Friday), we received 1.75 inches of rain in about 45 minutes.
Tonight, I don't know, because I accidently dropped the gauge before I read
it (sorry). These storms are being generated by the weather patterns off the
Atlantic coast of
Florida. It is our normal rainy season during which the extreme heat of the
day generates evening storms; however the frequency and intensity of these
storms is the result of this weather pattern. We are still down 6 inches on
yearly totals for rain, so it is important we make this ground up before the
dry season. We just recently came off severe water restrictions and may have
to go back on them. We were hoping for somelthing from Debby to help us out;
it was disappointing to miss out on that. Tomorrow will be more of the same
continuing thru the week. Our water problems will be solved only lthru a
tropical depression or storm coming thru the area. We just hope it can be
done with minimal winds but nature's way to solve water problems is to
deliver a tropical storm or hurricane despite some of the drawbacks. Our
newer residents have a difficult time understanding all of this. But
basically, we get our water in the rainy season, and it gets dry in the
winter season. Florida residents need to learn that the basics of nature
still apply. Richard Macomber-Cape Coral, Florida (Lee County). ps-Collier
County has also had its share of storms. From Boca Grande south, there has
been marine warnings with seas 3-5 above normal.
