This is in response to my posting yesterday about the extremely severe
(on radar) storm near Washington D.C.
The Weather Channel notes:
"Residents throughout the metro D.C. area reported being hit with one
storm
after another. National Weather Service forecasters say
that some of the
damage was the work of a series of microbursts moving
across the area.
An unidentified man was reportedly killed at the West
Falls Church Metro
station when a tree he was standing under was struck by
lightning, according
to Metro spokeswoman Cheryl Johnson.
Local power companies are reporting that thousands of
area customers are
still without electricity. Virginia Power says that
6,700 people remain in the
dark, down from 11,000 earlier this morning. Pepco
still has more than 22,000
customers still without power. At the height of the
storms, both companies
reported a combined total of about 84,000 homes without
power. "
