Tornado Risk - Slight
There is less than a 2% probability of a tornado within 25 miles of any
point.
Editors note: While the official forecast is calling for a low probability
one of our favorite forecasters (Robert Lattery
http://m2.aol.com/vortex100 ) is predicting "Very good shear values,
especially on the southwestern end of the MCS, from eastern Nebraska into
northwestern Iowa, will likely help produce a few tornadic supercells this
evening."

Hail Risk - Slightly Moderate
There is a 25 % probability of hail 3/4 inch or larger within 25 miles of
any point for an area covering central north and west northeast Kansas, and
central south and southeast Nebraska.
The 15% probability area covers northwest Oklahoma except the far western
panhandle, Kansas except the southeast corner, the southeast 1/3 of
Nebraska, far northwest Missouri, and Iowa except the eastern area.
The 5% area covers the Texas panhandle, the northwest 1/2 of Oklahoma,
western Colorado, Kansas, the southeast 1/2 of Nebraska, the northwest 1/2
of Missouri, Iowa, southern Minnesota, far southwest and far southcentral
west Wisconsin and far southeast Kansas.

Wind Risk - Slight Risk
There is 15% probability of winds in excess of 50 knots within 25 miles of
any point for an area covering Kansas except the far southern, southeast and
far western areas, the southeast 1/3 of Nebraska, northwest Missouri, and
southwest and central west Iowa.
There are two 5% probability areas.
One area covers the north Texas panhandle, far northeast New Mexico, the
northwest 1/3 of Oklahoma, Kansas except the southeast corner, the southeast
1/2 of Nebraska, the northwest 1/3 of Missouri, far southeast South Dakota
far southeast Minnesota and Iowa except the eastern area.
The other area covers Pennsylvania except the western and southeastern
areas, New York except the far western and far southeastern areas, and the
northwest 1/2 of Vermont.

Tomorrow's Risk - Slightly Moderate
The risk area tomorrow covers west New Mexico, central north Texas,
Oklahoma, northwest Arkansas, southeast Kansas, central and southern
Missouri, Illinois except the northwest corner, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan
except the western peninsula, far southeast Wisconsin, Kentucky, the
northwest 2/3 of West Virginia, western Pennsylvania, and far western New
York.
The greatest risk is located over eastern Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan
except the western peninsula, far western Pennsylvania, and far western New
York.

The 24 hr precipitation forecast is calling for two areas to receive over 2
inches of rainfall: over southcentral Kansas and over central west Iowa.
The area forecast to receive over an inch of rainfall covers central north
Oklahoma, Kansas except the northeast and central north areas, far northwest
Missouri, eastern Nebraska, western and westcentral Iowa, southeast South
Dakota, and southwest and central south Minnesota.
The 24 - 48 hour precipitation forecast is calling for over an inch of
rainfall for central and northeast Oklahoma, far southeast Kansas, and
southern Missouri.

FIRES
INCIDENT MANAGEMENT SITUATION REPORT
SUNDAY, JUNE 25, 2000 - 0900 MDT
NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS LEVEL II

CURRENT SITUATION:
A new large fire was reported in the Northwest Area. Initial attack activity
was moderate in the Southern Area and light elsewhere. The National
Interagency Coordination Center mobilized an airtanker, infrared aircraft, a
helicopter, and miscellaneous overhead. Very high to extreme fire indices
were reported in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Kansas,
Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, and Utah.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN AREA LARGE FIRES:

PIŅON CANYON, Pike-San Isabel National Forest. A Type II Incident Management
Team (Hartman) is assigned. The fire is burning in salt cedar,
pinyon-juniper and grass south of La Junta, CO on the Comanche National
Grasslands. The fire experienced minor spread up canyon chutes and
individual tree torching. The incident is providing initial attack resources
for the Comanche National Grasslands.

WESTERN GREAT BASIN AREA LARGE FIRES:

BASIN, Elko Field Office BLM. This fire is 22 miles southwest of Jiggs, NV.
The fire is burning in heavy sage, pinyon-juniper and grass. Winds,
inaccessibility and unburned islands continue to challenge containment
efforts.

TONKIN ROAD, Battle Mountain Field Office BLM. This lightning caused fire is
75 miles south of Carlin, NV. Air support on the west side of the fire
helped to prevent the fire from burning over the ridge. Low humidities,
difficult access and passing thunderstorms hindered suppression efforts.

BOX CANYON, Winnemucca Field Office BLM. This lightning caused fire is ten
miles north of Winnemucca, NV. The fire is burning in cheatgrass and
sagebrush. Good progress towards line construction has been made. Strong
ridge top winds and steep terrain have hampered containment efforts.

NORTHWEST AREA LARGE FIRES:

RANGE, Yakima Agency BIA. This human-caused fire is south of Toppenish, WA.
State Highway 97 was closed for several hours due to movement of fire
equipment and suppression operations. Containment objectives are being
deterred by spotting due to high winds.

HARPHAM, Prineville District BLM. This fire is three miles southeast of
Maupin, OR. Harpham Flat Campground was evacuated and one outbuilding was
destroyed. There are communication problems due to the fire being located in
a deep canyon.

SOUTHERN AREA LARGE FIRES:

MUSE COMMAND, Florida State Division of Forestry. The fire is east of St.
Cloud, FL in Osceola County. No new information was received.

WILDCOW, Florida State Division of Forestry. The fire is in Hendry County
near Felda, FL. No new information was received

OUTLOOK:

For the western United States there will be scattered afternoon
thunderstorms with gusty winds east of the line from Phoenix, Arizona to Las
Vegas, Nevada through central Utah to Denver, Colorado into central Montana.
The remainder of the west will be dry. Most thunderstorms in Utah will be
dry.

Valley temperatures in the western United States will range from the 70's to
80's over northern portions and into the 90's over the south. Mountain
temperatures will range 10 to 15 degrees cooler than nearby valleys. The
lower deserts in southern California and Arizona will reach near 105
degrees. Minimum relative humidities will generally be 10 to 30 percent
throughout the West, except for the coastal areas which will be above 70
percent.

Florida will be partly cloudy with scattered afternoon thunderstorms. High
temperatures will be in the 90's. Minimum relative humidities will be around
50 percent.
