MORE Breaking News... (Piedmont Triad of NC; including G'boro & High Point)
NWS has issued a statement about the storm reports from yesterday, May 25,
2000.
The NWS report stated that the damage was from STAIGHT LINE wind damage. They
do not think that there was an actual tornado that touched down. Here is
part of the NWS statement:
" THE AREA OF WIND DAMAGE WAS UP TO SIX MILES WIDE IN THE CITY OF
GREENSBORO. WELL OVER ONE HUNDRED SQUARE MILES OF AREA RECEIVED
SOME DAMAGE FROM THE EVENT.
THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE CAUSED BY TORNADOES. ALL OF THE
DAMAGE WAS BLOWN IN ONE DIRECTION WHICH IS INDICATIVE OF STRAIGHT
LINE DOWNBURST WINDS PRODUCED BY POWERFUL SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS. ". Steve
Harned, from the NWS was in the Greensboro and burlington area today
surveying the damage and made the conclusions you see above.
