Suprise in North Carolina! We were predicted to have recieved a dusting of
snow, topped with some sleet and freezing rain today. Instead, by three
o'clock this morning we already had 2 inches on the gound and moderate snow.
Accumulation is pretty much over with now, and I have about 5-6 inches on the
ground in High Point, NC. Unlike most wet southern snowfalls, this is very
powdery and dry. Six inches of snow has pretty much shut the Piedmont Triad
down, schools and government closed as are several businesses. At 10 am main
roads are still slush covered here, and it remains cloudy and in the twenties.
Last measurable snow here in the Triad was December of 1997 (4.5 in). More
expected this weekend?
Very nice suprise for us here in Carolina! Goes to show how difficult our
snow forecasting can be...
