COMMENT:

I commend Steve/KC5TRR for his good intentions.
However, after visiting the web address stated
above, I do not see any formal acknowledgements
from amateur radio governing bodies("there is a
new frequency set up"), large scale survey=20
results ("amateurs across the country"),=20
comments from regional Skywarn operators,=20
or sound reasoning to support this plan.

Any effort to improve the process of generating=20
ham/non ham spotter reporting is worthy of notice,
but in this community there are enought spotter
freqs all working together, and using a simplex=20
frequency for 'more weather stuff' would not be=20
received well.

Like it or not...not every ham is interested in
doing severe weather-- even when there is severe
weather! Some just want to rag chew on the simplex
freqs or use these freqs for whatever suits their
needs. Thus their license (and simplex frequency)
privileges must be considered.

We do not run military precision nets, but
we do maintain a bias toward formality versus=20
informality. This process creates
credibility and quality reporting, something I feel
cannot be obtained with informal operator practices
no matter what goal or frequency.

Based upon only limited information from the web
site I personally and respectfully disagree with=20
this plan and its promotion.

Replies and other opinions are encouraged!
