Below is a compilation of the responses received this evening. For the
record, it looks like here in PA any volunteer emergency person is
allowed to have blue lights - firemen, etc. - I found this odd when I
moved here to see blue lights on all different types of vehicles!

On this issue of additional lights for ham/spotter vehicles:
This issue has popped up several times in the past here in
Wisconsin, and while the laws vary from state to state, our
group contacted local law enforcement agencies to get their
opinions and attitudes since we have ham & spotters wanting
to use lights for the vehicles.
THE BOTTOM LINE: The law enforcement agencies were all against
us using these lights. They note that within the state statues,
we can use additional warning lights on our vehicles, but the Law
enforcement officals saw no special reason why we should have them
or need them. For road hazards they can be helpful, but not for
spotting.
If anything the legal eagles felt that we would be creating more
of a distraction for other drivers. Follow the rules of the road
and observe proper safety procedures when pulling over for
spotting was their position.
As such, the offical position of the Milwaukee Area SKYWARN Association
Inc, is no lights for spotter duties.
...Good luck with your efforts.

I don't know the answer to this question but if anyone finds out let me
know.
I would like to add this information to my web page. I would also like
to
know what the laws are for Georgia regarding vehicle lights.

Amber is the *ONLY* lights you (as a civilian) can use.
Red & Blue are for Police & Fire, Green is for Government Services.
A friend of mine wants to use strobes in his hazard lights to "get
attention" whenever there is an urgent situation or event that requires
caution lights.
According to a Police Officer we talked with, he could use amber
strobes,
but "not to go overboard".
We are in amateur radio, and we use caution lights during SKYWARN nets,
Races where we do communications, and other events that require amateur
radio communications.
It's best to contact your local police department and verify what you
can('t) use. Laws vary from county to county, state to state, planet to
planet...
