CASILIST : Finally, A Station in the NC Mountains

When I lived in NC I was always dismayed at the lack of Current
Condition Reporting stations in the mountains - Asheville was the only
station in the mountains, and Hickory the only station in the
foothills. This caused the mountain weather - which is significantly
different than the Piedmont weather - to "disappear" on meteorological
analyses of the area.

I am pleased to see that there is finally a station there now, in
Jefferson, NC (Ashe County). I think this is a recent addition to the
NWS's observing sites available online. It appears to be an automated
station. The station is not yet available from the NWS NC Observations
page at http://tgsv7.nws.noaa.gov/weather/NC_cc_us.html, probably
because the station has no name in their database and the station
identifier is not in the NWS Lookup Database at
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/oso/siteloc.shtml

However, it is available on the NWS's station conditions site at:
http://tgsv7.nws.noaa.gov/weather/current/KGEV.html

It is available through AccuWeather AccuData AMPS program but not
Personal AccuWeather. It is not yet available on the Weather
Underground. I have asked both sites if they can please add it. You
may also want to ask your favorite site to add it to their list if they
have not already.

The specific information on the site is:

KGEV - Jefferson, NC (formerly NC67)
Latitude - 36 26N
Longitude - 81 25W
Elevation - 969 meters
