This is an ADMIN email of which there will be only a couple per year.
CASI Members who have UNSUBSCRIBED from the list, don't worry, you are
not back on the list.
One portion of the CASI Website that has always been missing, in my
opinion, is a forecasting section. I know that many of you are
interested in keeping up with the weather and the forecast models for
your local conditions. I used to as well, when I had time
(http://www.weatherwatchers.org/forecast/), before CASI became a
full-time job.
Since I no longer have time to manage any sort of forecasting
weather-network, I am talking to "the Matt's" from NEMAS, the NorthEast
Media of Atmospheric Science, http://www.nemas.net/, about doing some
sort of partnership. They are looking for volunteers to do forecasts
for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast United States.
If there is enough response to NEMAS for the request below, CASI and
NEMAS will likely form a partnership in order to bring forecasts for the
Mid-Atlantic and NorthEast US to the Internet Public.
If you are interested in the jobs below, or need more information about
them, please contact NEMAS directly.
Important : Make sure that you mention you are from CASI when applying
as that will give us a measure of the interest in the project. Thanks!

Forecaster Recruition Information
The NorthEast Media of Atmospheric Science (NEMAS) is currently
looking for volunteer forecasters from the Mid Atlantic and
Northeastern United States to issue daily forecast products for
selected areas in order to expand our regional coverage. Below is
additional information on the objectives of NEMAS, a description
of a forecaster's duties, and a listing of areas which currently
are not covered by NEMAS. If interested in joining the NEMAS team,
please follow the instructions at the bottom of this document.
NEMAS Objectives:
The purpose of NEMAS is to provide the general public with indepth
and updated weather information and forecasts. Our primary function
is the issuing of daily forecast products which are disseminated
through our webpage located at http://www.nemas.net. In addition
to issuing forecast products, NEMAS also provides additional weather
information and services through our webpage, including a unique
weather observation forum, a weather software section, and a question
and answer interface. Our goal is to inform the public as much as
possible about weather and its affects on everyday life.
NEMAS does not interfere with National Weather Service objectives,
we honor all National Weather Service advisories, watches, and
warnings and make certain to alert the public of these advisories
when they are issued by the National Weather Service. We do not
issue our own advisories, watches, or warnings. In dangerous weather
situations we suggest that the public always turns to the National
Weather Service for appropriate information.
Forecaster Duties:
NEMAS forecasters work on a volunteer basis in order to complete the
expected objectives. Each forecaster works under a specific "office"
forecasting for a specified area. Depending on the number of forecasters
under each office, the duties of a forecaster may vary. It is expected
that each office issues a public forecast daily. There is no pre-defined
time for product issuance, and forecasters/offices may update their
products more than once a day if they wish to do so. Forecasters may
also issue an optional forecast discussion, which is intended primarily
for inter-organizational uses. In times of threatening weather, NEMAS
offices may also issue a Special Weather Discussion summarizing the
threat and listing any advisories/watches/warnings issued by the
National Weather Service.
There are no requirements in order to become a NEMAS forecaster.
A degree or other formal education is not necessary, but is plus.
However,
it is important that forecasters have a solid understanding of
atmospheric processes and knowledge in reading and interpreting weather
data. Prospective forecasters may be subject to a small evaluation
consisting of basic questions which relate to the forecasting process.
Areas which NEMAS needs forecasters to cover:
Maryland
West Virginia
Virginia
Central and Western Pennsylvania
Maine
New Hampshire
Vermont
Western Massachusetts
Connecticut
New York
