Here at CASI HQ we have the temperature continuing to rise at 15, but still not an inch of snow on the ground. Freezing rain is supposed to start before midnight and continue, sometimes heavy, overnight. The following image shows nicely the "bending" of the temperature field between 1.) The warm surge ahead of the front, 2.) The appalachians trapping cold air east of them, and 3.) A coastal front over Eastern NC. These factors result in 1.) the temperatures to be in the mid 30's in SW PA but be 10's in Central PA and 2.) The temperatures on the NC coast to be 60 while the mountains are in the 20's to lower 30's. http://www.ems.psu.edu/wx/usstats/netemp.gif -Jesse Other reports: ================================================== Sat, 02 Jan 1999 17:48:54 We're getting ready for a major ice storm event tonight.....Temp was 13.6 at 7 am and climbed all the way up to 22.3.....Currently moderate sleet (1 inch since 4 pm) on top of 4 inches of snow that has been on the ground since Wednesday with current temperature of 19.8 Prediction is for heavy precipitation until around midnight with temperatures below freezing....
