Hi folks,
The ISP CASI uses here in town went offline at 10am this morning and
just came back, partially. Here's hoping this message reaches you.
This is a combination of several CASILIST postings I received today:
Tonight there are several things to mention. First and foremost of
course is the HUGE storm system ripping through the heart of America
today and getting ready to batter the NE tonight. Here at CASI HQ winds
have been extremely high today, the highest since I moved to PA in fact,
with a gust of 36mph recorded this evening on the weather station, whose
pole is bending like a palm tree in a hurricane (which may make the
readings too low). And I'm on the North side of the mountain - people
on the south side likely have it worse. The raingauge for the CASI1
Alternate Radio Shack weather station was blown off the roof this
evening; I found it dangling from the roof banging against the wall
about an hour ago. Other things on my porch such as lawn furniture
could not be recovered easily tonight. Winds this afternoon gusted to
93mph in LaCrosse Wisconsin, and both IA and MN set new all-time lowest
pressure records, the lowest today being 28.43"Hg, according to the
Weather Channel.

CASI Member Glenn Briggs notes from Trenton MO:
"
an all time record low baro. reading was set at trenton last night
when the baro. fell to 29.09" wich beat the old record of 29.11"
again, this is an all time record low baro.

Well, I just got back home and got done putting my reports together. At
11:21 PM CDT the NWS Office in Springfield Mo. issued a svr t-storm
warning for the following counties here in SE KS:
CHEROKEE COUNTY IN SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS
CRAWFORD COUNTY IN SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS
As they issued the warning I went south on 69 highway, as I got to a
truck stop right off 69 it began to rain. The wind began to pick up and
the
max. wind recording I have was 53 MPH and the rain was very heavy at
times.
I followed the storm eastward and I went back North on 69 until I
reached Centennial Street that is right off 69 and goes east. I turned
down
Centennial and went east for about 3-5 miles. As I got up a little ways
winds began to pick up to around 60 MPH. At this time I pulled over due
to the rain making the visibility 0.
The storm had let up a little and I continued east. I got about 6
miles east of Pittsburg where I ran into nickle size hail and damaging
winds.
Below is a report of damage.
Trees knocked over, some power line damage.
Small things damage such as trash cans dented ect...
The storm that affect KS, OK, MO, ARK, And Texas was a squall line that
reached all the way into texas.
