Greg D. reminded me that it was almost exactly two years ago that a
strong storm system, not unlike the one tonight, moved through the
Eastern US. For details and graphics see my report here:

Well, looks as if it will be a active evening. Severe thunderstorms
began
to develop soon after the SPC in Norman Oklahoma had issued a svr
t-storm
watch for most of central KS and SE KS. At 7:14 PM CDT Radar indicated
a
line of storms reaching from the Salina KS area Southward into Enid
Oklahoma. These storms are moving due east at estimated speeds of 30 -
35
MPH and looks to hit Southeastern parts of kansas around 8:00 pm. Some
storms has had a history of some rotation to it as radar indicated
earlier
but as of right now the main threat of these storms are winds in excess
of
70-75 MPH and heavy rain. And due to heavy rains in the past that has
caused many problems in parts of Kansas the SPC has issued a Flash Flood
watch for all of SE. Kansas tonight into tomorrow.
As I continue to monitor these storms I can see the storm itself
intensify
as it makes it's was eastward, and is expanding. Our Skywarn group here
in
SE KS is ready for deployment if needed and I myself won't be spotting
but
I'm getting ready to head out in the far western parts of Southeast
Kansas.
The svr t-storm watch is in effect until 11:00 PM CDT. so we still have
a
while and I believe storms will keep forming in central kansas and all
move
at a Eastward direction.
One the storms has passed I will write back with anything I have about
the
storms.
