Subject: Flooding in Sedgwick, Ks. Date: Sun, 1 Nov 1998 11:28:22 -0600 (CST) From: GENO70{at}webtv.net (GENE GARDNER) We have had over 9 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. I think the whole Arkansas Valley will flood. The water from the Little Arkansas River and Sand Creek has backed up into the city of Sedgwick. The water is now up on the foundation of the house. I Have never seen it this high before. Kathryn and I took a couple of sandbags to her mothers house this morning and we couldnt have made it without the blazer. Now we are stranded, but have all we need for survival and comfort. Kat always keeps fresh bottled water on kand. All travel in and out of town has been halted. Several towns around me are doing evacuations, somthing unusual in this area. A state of emrgency has been declared in several counties around us, and all the emergency systems are being taxed pretty hard. Calls have been sent over local tv asking for civilians to volteer some boats. Everyone is running out of sandbags. The phones and water and all are still on at this point. We are Expecting it to get much worse since the valley above us has had and is still getting heavy rains. Will keep you advised. Keep on smiling Gene KEEP ON SMILIN, GENE
