CASI Member Hector Cintron alerted me that GOES had started transmitting
again on fax. Its resurection is confirmed:
"After a series of tests on the Earth sensor and attitude control,
GOES-8
was commanded back to normal on-orbit mode at approximately 2300 UTC
with the redundant Earth sensor in control. Full disk imaging and
sounding operations resumed at 0145
UTC, 28 October. Image navigation performance will be severely degraded
for 24 hours following the recovery."

If your service provider has not restored satellite images by tomorrow
morning, kindly remind them that GOES-8 is back.
The latest on Mitch - is down to 140mph but according to the NHC,
Honduras continues to be battered by the storm. "HAM RADIO REPORTS
INDICATE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE ON THE ISLAND OF GUANAJA AND ROATAN." --NHC
The last report from Roatan was Rain and Wind from the WSW sustained at
69mph at 4pm today.
