I wasn't originally going to send this to the list since it's not "weather" related but there has been considerable interest in it. Anybody feel it? I did not. A 5.2 earthquake ocurred in Ohio today and was felt as far away as Eastern New York. Some minor damage was done. Original NWS Statement: SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BINGHAMTON NY 424 PM EDT FRI SEP 25 1998 SEVERAL REPORTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BINGHAMTON OF AN EARTHQUAKE AT APPROXIMATELY 355 PM EDT. THE STEUBEN COUNTY OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT REPORTED MINOR DAMAGE TO THEIR FACILITY. PRELIMINARY REPORTS INDICATE THAT THE EARTHQUAKE WAS A MAGNITUDE 5.0 CENTERED NEAR ASHTABULA OHIO. After seeing this statement I went to the USGS and pulled this page which contains Details and Maps: http://wwwneic.cr.usgs.gov/neis/bulletin/980925195252.HTML -- ============================================================== Jesse Ferrell - Meteorologist/Web Dev. - j{at}weatherwatchers.org Central Atlantic Storm Investigators - www.weatherwatchers.org "Andy Warhol had it wrong, Everyone will be famous for 15 minutes *and* have their own Web page." --William Shatner || ICQ No. 136832 ||
