Jeanne became a Hurricane this afternoon however she is closer to Africa than the Caribbean. Tropical Storm Ivan strengthened to 65mph this afternoon as well but is far from land. Of course the big story is Georges, who is now over the D.R. heading for Cuba. After that? Probably Florida. Evacuations began today in southern FL. CASI Members in southern FL are encouraged to get their family and their homes ready for the storm and report observations to me when safe. Georges has killed 8, left most of Puerto Rico and some islands without power and water, and damaged 70% of homes on St. Kitts. I will be putting up History links on the Georges page of the CASI site tonight along with additional links all over. Keep an eye on all three storms at http://www.weatherwatchers.org/tropical/ The CASI Web Server rose from 8,000 (page/image/cgi) hits a day last week to 170,000 hits yesterday and probably more today, not including the 60,000 hits to the GoBeach information which we are holding for Gert at http://www.gobeach.com/hurr.htm (which may provide even more hits tomorrow as they were interviewed by USA Today this afternoon). We have far exceeded our daily allotment of bandwidth at CASI, transferring about 1.8GB through the webservers yesterday. If this tropical action continues for another week we may have to pare down parts of the CASI site, but with the help of Member Mike Reddin who has offered to help with bandwidth, we will hopefully not have to. If any of you are going to have updates on your web sites regarding Tropical weather and I do not have you on the above page already please let me know. Remember that CASI is not just me broadcasting to the web, it's all of you. And all of you I have to thank by making CASI powerful enough to receive all of the traffic it has been receiving during the last few days. Due to the Tropical Weather possibilities this weekend I am again adding Members to the CASILIST in an emergency fashion as I don't have time to create pages and links at this time and may not this weekend. -- ============================================================== Jesse Ferrell - Meteorologist/Web Dev. - j{at}weatherwatchers.org Central Atlantic Storm Investigators - www.weatherwatchers.org "And here a twister comes... here comes the twister." --Talking Heads || ICQ No. 136832 ||
