Hurricane Bonnie is expected to make landfall in North Carolina tomorrow around noon. Tropical Storm force winds should be in effect tonight and hurricane force by morning. I will add an interactive Map of surface observations for the Carolinas tonight to the web site so that you can keep up with the observations during the storm, some of which are likely to be amazing. For more info please visit the CASI Tropical Season 1998: Bonnie page at http://www.weatherwatchers.org/tropical/1998/2/ Due to the increasing threat of Bonnie and the increasing hits on the CASI site I will be suspending most updating of Danielle until Bonnie is over. I have added links to a number of local and regional radars. MHX (Morehead City NC)'s radar started seeing Bonnie on the Composite Reflectivity product as the first bands swung through this morning. Be aware that most major weather companies' sites are down or slow today due to the increased load, which sometimes doubles or triples their normal traffic. I have provided redundant links where possible. How are you Members doing? For those of you in E. NC, what are your plans, are you preparing or do you need to? Just a little over a year ago I lived in E. NC, but now, 500 miles away, I need to depend on you to give me live reports. Send them in email to me and I will compile them for the CASILIST and maybe for the website. Unless you specify otherwise I will assume any storm reports sent to me can be public knowledge. I spoke to Member Bill Harrell who is leaving Raleigh for Pender County as we speak to investigate the storm. Here is info from Charlie Anzman who was taking vacation in NJ: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >From the scene? ... Well gang, if I didn't have my wife and daughter with me, probably would have stayed. Yep, 3-day 'vacation' to Point Pleasant NJ. The swells were there (and was the riptide) SUNDAY. (You had to be a good 200 lbs or more ... which I'm not to stand). For those that haven't heard the National news, a 23 year old - only knee-deep - was swept out to see last evening - Today just prior to our leaving 4 LIFEGUARDS had to be rescued by the coast goard. 38 years on Long Island - never saw surf like this in my life (and we were 5-600 miles away from Bonn...when we left) Simply awesome Caught a glimpse of our site on AOL (Yuk!) down there ... now I know why Jess keeps the resolution high on his Wx station & just turned ours up! The good news - the weather Station and cam stayed active throughout. Because there are some 230 E-Mails here, there are a few BCC's to local 'pals' - try to answer all tongiht Back to work tomorrow!
