CASILIST : Cool in Columbia SC / Hurricane Bonnie

Hurricane Bonnie has continued to increase in strength all evening and
is now 105mph. NHC says that a landfall for FL is now less likely but
SC/NC is more likely. The most likely of all, however, is still for the
storm to turn away. You wouldn't know it from this morning's NOGAPS
model run, which has it plowing into Charleston SC next week, but that
is the left-most model. The NOGAPS run for 00z today is just now
completing at

Some forecasts also indicate that Bonnie may stall or meander for a
couple days as it gets stuck up against the bottom of the upper level
wind pattern. All in all - still too early to tell. But it's dangerous
enough to make most of CASI-SOUTH worry.
Bonnie currently has winds of 105mph sustained but estimates are that it
could increase to 130. In comparison, Hugo was 160 and Andrew 155 at
their top strengths, though not at landfall. Fran was 115.

PS: Hurricane Howard is kicking in the EastPac with winds of 150mph.
In other news:
The CASI site was down this evening for about half an hour at 11pm - our
provider, PAIR.COM, had a problem with the server.
Powell in SC beat me for coldness today - by a good 5 degrees this
morning. Also, he called me at 10pm to say he was 68. I was 73.
There's a switch!
Powell from SC Writes:
Howdy all! 58 here in Columbia this AM officially. I had 56
yesterday. The 58 this AM was a record. Now waiting to see what
Bonnie does. I know we're in trouble if I see Jim Leonard in my back
yard!
I'l be watching things closely when I run my Sunday 6 AM to 3 PM
shift at WKDK in Newberry SC! The big 1240 doesn't go far, but they
do get gooood weather when I am there....
