CASILIST : Hurricane Bonnie Update

Hurricane Bonnie is now at 90mph sustained winds. It is moving just to the east of the Eastern Bahamas now. Forecasts have not changed much in the last 24 hours - NHC is still calling for a "turn to the north" early next week. Of course the longer it goes without a Northward turn the more of a chance there will be that it will clip areas of the coast which jut out - hence, Eastern NC residents should keep a very close eye on this storm. I have added links on the CASI Tropical Pages to a Map of the Bahamas, as well as City Forecasts and Current Conditions for selected cities in the Bahamas which are in the path of the storm. http://www.weatherwatchers.org/tropical/1998/2/ The National Hurricane Center's Front Page has been down for much of the afternoon as they are overloaded; don't forget that the CASI Tropical Pages have direct and alternate links to the current statements and graphics. I have also updated the Tropical Surface Report Map at http://www.weatherwatchers.org/tropical/surface/index.html (Netscape 4 Only) http://www.weatherwatchers.org/tropical/surface/index2.html to fix a couple errors and update the look of the map. Click on any station in the vicinity of the storm to get current conditions (and forecasts for some). *Do any of you know where I can get current or past synoptic data on the web? I have the Tropical Surface Map linking to the Weather Underground for synoptic stations (non-hourly) because that's the only place I know where to get the current observations, but they don't keep data from the past. Let me know. Thanks. The latest reports from the two stations closest to the storm (see map) were of winds steady at 11, 18, 20, and 23mph, so we're not looking at very harsh conditions at any of the reporting stations yet, and may not be, as the Bahamas are on the southern, weaker side of the storm. The NHC is also flying a plane tonight or tomorrow into what is probably already TD#4 behind Bonnie. -- ============================================================== Jesse Ferrell - Meteorologist/Web Dev. - j{at}weatherwatchers.org Central Atlantic Storm Investigators - www.weatherwatchers.org "Beware of the women who promise blue skies; There's tornado warnings in the backs of their eyes." --Boiled In Lead || ICQ No. 136832 ||
