Well the Tropical Atlantic is looking up, finally tonight. A large wave between Africa and the Leeward Islands is being watched, and a smaller Tropical Wave increased in strength considerably today near Puerto Rico. In fact I have uploaded a NEXRAD Radar Animation from the Puerto Rico radar onto the CASI site and it is now accessible from the top "Welcome" section of the main Tropical Pages. http://www.weatherwatchers.org/tropical/ If you have tropical pages on your website and I have neglected to put them on the CASI Tropical Pages under Member Pages please let me know so that I can add them. Next, I had to update the CASI1 Weather Station software to a new version this week, which has some nice features but unfortunately no longer supports GIF imagery - so my images now look a little worse and have increased in size from <100KB to >600KB. I apologize for this but it was the only way that the software maker could continue - UNISYS, the owner of the GIF format, charges individuals $150,000 to produce them. In any case, the new software is much more user-friendly and computer-friendly. It has nice additions such as e-mailing of current conditions or alarming conditions. For now I have restored the previous imagery as best I could - I will modify this in the future to try to cut down on file size. I also had trouble mimicking the "Current Condition" image that I had on the front page of CASI so I ended up using UNIX scripts to parse out the conditions on an hourly basis from the emails that the station sends every hour. In any case, you can see the CASI1 Weather Station on the web at its normal address http://www.weatherwatchers.org/wxstation/liveobs.shtml Note that I have also added a number of CASI Members stations at the bottom of this page. Glad to see them. Keep up the good work! And finally, a warm weather welcome to the new Members this time around - and good news: CASI has passed the 300 mark; there are now 307 Members of CASI. Michael Bryson of Lake Worth FL was #300. Also of note - we have at last assimilated the famous Chaser Cartoonist Allan Rosenberg. He is the author of a very successful chaser cartoon, Negative Tilt, formerly known as the Gilbert Zone, and is a frequent poster of humorous remarks to wx-talk/chase. If you haven't seen Negative Tilt, you've got to. www.gilbertzone.com New Members in the last 2 weeks: Randy McCray RTP/Durham NC Mike Blake Plymouth NH William Smith Bowie MD Steven Owen Sr. Rockville IN John Besedic Clearwater Beach Fl Terry Brown Hephzibah GA David Hriblan Morgantown WV Paul Britton Norwalk CA Michael Bryson Lake Worth Fl Randy Brooks Monroe NC Charles Houska Phoenicia NY Wayne Ackerman Columbus NC Kevin Hunt Salem NH Nikki Siegert Bowling Green KY Wayne Isaacs Ellicott City MD Allan Rosenberg Bridgewater NJ -- ============================================================== Jesse Ferrell - Meteorologist/Web Dev. - j{at}weatherwatchers.org Central Atlantic Storm Investigators - www.weatherwatchers.org "And here a twister comes... here comes the twister." --Talking Heads || ICQ No. 136832 ||
