Couple Misc. Items this evening: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charlie Anzman reminds us of the AWS site, great place to find current Non-NWS weather data if you haven't been there before. Started up with just a couple sites several years ago, now has several hundred real-time surface observing stations across the US: > Jess & gang... > >The AWS school network is on the web >(Here's a whole bunch of HTML wx stations- >Most live from schools across the country... > >http://www.aws.com >Have a great weekend >Charlie ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And I just found today that UCAR has added a Visible Satellite for the Gulf (just in case we ever GET any tropical weather this season ;)): http://www.rap.ucar.edu/weather/satellite/latest_GOM.jpg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Today's amazing weather fact (from the AccuWeather Almanac): New Jersey 1926 A bolt of lightning at the Picatinny Army Arsenal in Northern NJ triggered a massive explosion in an ammunition dump. Every building within a half mile was leveled by the blast and 16 people were killed. Debris landed as far as 22 miles away and over 100 million present-day dollars of damage was done. This is the most costly damage due to lightning in the United States. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- ============================================================== Jesse Ferrell - Meteorologist/Web Dev. - j{at}weatherwatchers.org Central Atlantic Storm Investigators - www.weatherwatchers.org "And here a twister comes... here comes the twister." --Talking Heads || ICQ No. 136862 || ---------------------------------------------------------------------
