CASILIST : CASI-South Meeting Sunday in NW NC!
From: J <j{at}weatherwatchers.org>
Date: Mon, 22 Jun 1998 22:43:52 -0400
OK Folks, I will be embarking for the South Wednesday morning so this
will be my last CASILIST posting (I can still forward yours on through
Wed. morning.)
Reminder: A CASI-North Meeting will be held here at HQ in Central PA
later this summer for people in the northern CASI territory (of course
you're free to come to both but one of them is bound to be a long trip
for you ;)).
The second annual CASI-South Meeting will be held in Boomer NC (NW NC
between Lenoir and Wilkesboro) at my parents' house, where I grew up, on
Sunday June 28, from about 2:30pm until whenever.
Features:
Since this meeting is at my childhood house I can give a tour and spiel
on the Hurricane Hugo Downburst (1989) and the Lightning Strike (1987).
What I believe to be a downburst during Hurricane Hugo in 1989 downed
several thousand trees on our property and in June 1987 we suffered a
direct lightning strike to the house which blew out a window, wall
studs, and 5x5 foot piece of wall from the shed behind the house,
causing permanent frame damage to that structure, then ran through our
house causing severe electrical damage and burning holes in walls, etc.
Since not a whole lot of evidence is still around from these
meteorological events I will bring a photo album (if I can find it!)
which will well document each of them.
I will also bring a composite videotape including recent weather events
of note for which I have been present and videotaping, including the
Wall Cloud event of 6/2/98 in Raleigh
(www.weatherwatchers.org/1997/0602/), the 13" snow of Dec 29-30, 1997
here at HQ, Hurricane Fran (www.weatherwatchers.org/fran/lsi.html) and
damage afterwards, and a number of other assorted storms. I may also
include some of a friend's video of our visit to the Nat'l Severe Storms
Laboratory in Kansas City MO in 1995 (Tim, you will recall this trip...)
In addition please bring your pictures or video of your favorite weather
events to share. This meeting is very informal, come-as-you-are, to
mainly discuss recent weather events on the East Coast though of course
any ideas you might have for CASI in general will be entertained.
Coldcut sandwich material will be on hand. If you're coming please
bring chips, coke products, or desserts.
People who have replied to the Meeting emails thus far indicating
interest will be sent detailed directions and the location of an online
map to them in an e-mail this evening. If you have not replied to the
earlier emails or you do not receive directions by tomorrow but would
like directions please email me between now and Sunday and I will get
back to you. If you are considering coming please RSVP so that I will
know the maximum number of attendees possible. There's not a whole lot
of room in the house so I wouldn't recommend bringing the calvary ;)
