Hi Folks! Here's some CASI News:
Storm Reports Up:
New Storm Reports are up on http://www.weatherwatchers.org/recentwx.html
on two pages which are not completed but do have video captures : Bud's
PA chase with a funnel from 6/2 and my "stand here on the porch" chase
from 6/16. http://www.weatherwatchers.org/1998/0602/sr/001 and
http://www.weatherwatchers.org/1998/0616/ are the url's. Will be adding
more when I get back from vacation.
CASI South Meeting:
So far I have had a small number of people respond to say they will be
coming to the CASI South Meeting. There is still no place to hold it.
I will try, however, to tack down a place by early next week. A
reminder - the meeting, if it happens, will be next Sunday June 28. If
I don't hear of a possible place in the next couple days and its still a
*small* number of people then it's possible we could have it at my
parents' house in NW NC.
Next year hopefully I will have more than one day I can dedicate to
possible meeting days if I plan better and get more vacation time from
work.
CASI and My Vacation:
I will be leaving HeadQuarters next week for a "down south tour." My
schedule will be as follows:
Wednesday - Drive to Boomer NC to stay with parents and visit friends.
Thursday - Boomer NC
Friday - Boomer NC
Saturday - Travel to Asheville NC for assorted Meteorology Class Reunion
functions
Sunday - Possible CASI-South Meeting somewhere
Monday - Drive back to HQ
Tuesday - Do normal weekend activities
Wednesday - Do normal weekend activities
Needless to say I will be without email most of Wed., Sat., Probably
Sunday, and Monday. I should be completely reachable on Tuesday and
next Wednesday. I may check e-mail in the evening on Thur. and Fri.
However, I will not have the CASI database with me, so I will not be
able to forward CASILIST postings; the CASILIST will be CLOSED from 6am
Wednesday June 24 to noon Tuesday June 30. I hate to do this but I
still don't have the list automated and can't carry the database with
me.
In addition the CASICAM will not be transmitting as it is my only
videocamera and I will have it with me (if I near any strong cells on
Wed. or Mon. I will attempt to chase) but the CASI1 Weather Station will
continue to transmit data in my absence as long as the power doesn't go
out or the software fail at HQ.
My hope is that there won't be any Atlantic Tropical Storms while I'm
gone due to the waning El Nino but La Nina is strengthening every day
and if it continues on its current increase rate we could have a very
very active season, sources say. If a storm starts while I'm gone and
I can get to a computer I will put a disclaimer up on the CASI Tropical
Page and push to a list of Member Tropical Pages.
Because of the impending vacation and the massive cleanup I have to do
to find things I need to take ;) effective tonight I won't have time to
post StormForm, storm reports, Member Changes, or do any new Member
Processing. New Members through today have been processed. StormForm
submissions through early last week have been processed, and all
requested Member Page Changes should be done. World Weather News
postings were cancelled last week due to Severe Weather at HQ, and they
are cancelled this week and next week due to the impending vacation. I
will pick up where I left off on all these items when I return on
Tuesday June 30.
Member Page news:
I have finally added the Ohio and Florida maps to the CASI Member
section at http://www.weatherwatchers.org/members/ These maps had
crowded the US Map considerably for a long time so now they have their
own pages. With 240 Members now we're eating away at the East Coast
like a weather-watching plague!
The thumbnail maps in the upper right-hand corner of your Member Pages
now say "You are here." This was a decision by MapBlast to redo the way
they design maps. This of course doesn't make a lot of sense for our
Member Maps. However I have found what I think is a solution and I will
implement it when I get back from vacation.
