Many, many severe thunderstorms have occurred today.
There have been 5 Tornado Watches and 4 Severe Thunderstorm Watches
issued since this morning for an area covering most of the SE US minus
FL and MS.
I tried in vain to keep up with all the Warnings issued this evening...
Warnings were being issued every few minutes from about 4 to 8pm. For
the GA, NC, and SC warnings you can visit the CASI Text Weather Archive,
updated at 8pm.
http://www.weatherwatchers.org/archive/severe/severe.html
A quick count shows at least 35 Severe Thunderstorm Warnings in GA & SC
today with an additional at least 15 Tornado Warnings through 8pm.
Tennessee, which I couldn't get a number on, has has more than GA & SC
did, so at least double the above figures for a picture of the SE this
afternoon. Earlier this afternoon there were over 30 Severe
Thunderstorm Warnings active at the same time in the SE US according to
Severe Maps from the Net such as EarthWatch and Personal AccuWeather.
In addition up to 14 Tornado Warnings were in effect at the same time.
One large supercell started in Central TN and finally dissipated at the
TN/NC/VA line this evening. Another large supercell went through
southern GA and off the coast. These two storms were repsonsible for
many of the Warnings.
At 8pm there are still many Warnings out - 20 Severe Thunderstorm
Warnings and 6 Tornado Warnings. IF you live in GA or the Carolinas
please be aware that the severe situation is still occurring.
I imagine the LSR (Local Storm Reports) Digest will be *huge* tomorrow.
