Well folks looks live Severe Weather Season is creeping up on us... my
dewpoint was -5 last weekend but is up to 45 today (I'm grasping at
straws I know but this *is* PA... ) and parts of the Carolinas are under
a Slight Risk of Severe Thunderstorms tomorrow (graphic at

NetNews - Recent Internet Weather Site News

WRAL TV has introduced new weather images from the Genesis system on
their site. This includes the following in both US and Carolinas large
images, small images, and small animations - Winter Precip Radar,
3-D-ish Satellite. http://www.wral-tv.com/weather/genesis/

The Weather Channel introduced new "local" radar images several weeks
ago. They are actually small regional images, and they have a much
better site location selection than before. I think these new radars
are really sharp, with roads and city names on them.

WeatherLabs Inc. was purchased this week by DataMark. It is unknown
what affect if any this will have on their online data distribution.
Their website says however, "Stay tuned for the all new WeatherLabs...
coming this month..." http://www.weatherlabs.com/wliacquired.html

WeatherBank's pay service ($14.95/month) has replaced their State
Lightning Event Animations with State Lightning Strike Animations which
makes for a more precise lightning tracking product.

Redesigned sites:

The following Weather Providers have redesigned their Web Sites in the
last two weeks:

AccuWeather - Redesigned their corporate site to look much sharper than
their 3 year old stale site. (Personal AccuWeather site unchanged).
They have forgone their "Get Weather" section and replaced it with a
link to the Free Personal AccuWeather service.

Weather Underground - Redesigned the look of their individual city pages
to include more promotion for their Live Weather Banners and to push
their forecast (actually NWS's forecast) higher up on the page.

Intellicast has reprogrammed their site and is now feeding the images to
their web site in a different way than before. Previously the live
weather images were fed from different machine IP addresses and now they
appear to all come from www.intellicast.com (although they probably
still come from different machines who remap their names). This has
caused a number of problems at their site during the last week but it is
assumed this is in order to create a more robust system.
