Report from Ashe Watauga counties....Some severe flooding in both
counties....Total rainfall in Watauga County approx 8 inches...One
nursing home evacuated to a shelter at Hardin Park School...several
roads damaged including highway 105 just south of Boone....At my weather
station on the Watauga, Ashe county line we had 4.5 inches of rain with
wind gusts to 30 mph....our small creek became a small river with water
rising about 3 feet above normal.....New River flooded many low areas
along it route through Ashe county and washed out many small private
bridges....Overall not a severe event but still a major storm that will
be remembered by many....
