I know this is a bit "out of range" but I just noticed what looks to be
(hard to read, the millibars are so tightly wound) a
940mb Low forming over the northern portions of Ireland by 12z Sat 03
Jan (according to the NOGAPS). Just thought
it was interesting but my main reason for posting this was because
looking at that map reminded me of an awesome
storm they had up there a few years back (late 1980's, early 1990's)
that caused 100+ mph winds, and did 1 billion
'pounds' of damage (or somewhere around $1.6 billion). (I saw this on a
documentary a few years back) The BBC
forecasters had talked about the storm early in the day before it hit,
but by the evening news the on-camera
meteorologist said "Earlier in the day we talked about the possibility
of a hurricane, but now I don't think we'll get it."
But they did. Big time. Although not a tropical cyclone by any nature
(I think it was in March), it was their closest thing
to one (damage-wise, not meteorologically speaking- they have gotten
remnants of storms before, like Hurricane Lili last
year and Hurricane Floyd in 1993.).

I was just wondering if anyone else had any info on this storm, perhaps
even video, or if anyone knows of any sites
dedicated to it.

Thanks,
Mike Hardiman
