MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Speaking of the new year, it may be hard to believe, but spotter training
dates are already starting to pop up on some schedules
As our above banner states: "Promoting severe weather IDENTIFICATION,
EVALUATION, & REPORTING" is our primary goal.... In fact that same
sentence appears somewhere on a MASA document entitled 'mission state-
ment.'
No matter what your relationship is to severe weather, (spotter, chaser,
emergency response, afficinado, radio operator, photography, etc) knowing
how to properly identify it, and then properly respond to the hazard
can mean the difference between life, injury, death, and destruction.
Most spotter programs run about two hours and are usually open to the
general public. The programs use 35mm slides, videos, and handouts,
with a Q & A session at the end.
Local city and county emergency managers usually have the time/date/local
info and they are a good starting point for followup.
As we receive the dates, they will be forwarded to everyone on our mailing
list (200+). MAke sure to set aside time for spotter training as these
programs typically run from about February thu April.
Sending out spotter training dates IS a very big deal for us, of course
if they do not apply to your area then just delete, but they will be
coming.....
Well there is more, but I'll save it for later---time to wrap the
Christmas presents. Hmmm, I wonder if Santa knows that I have been
a very good boy and sure would like a new Pentium HP computer, a
rooftop Doppler radar, and a 50 thousand dollar storm spotter van,
complete with rooftop satellite dish?
Thanks to all of you for your continued interest, assistance, and
support of MASA. The December newsletter should be coming soon.
Best regards,
Skip Voros,
Executive Director
