Our main computer crashed last Friday, losing several periphials,
networking, a hard drive, and some data.
The CASILIST was being sent to an incomplete list of Members last night,
so for those of you who did not receive the lengthy e-mail last night
explaining the situation and status of CASI operations after the crash,
please read it tonight at
http://www.weatherwatchers.org/members/casilist/emerg/index.txt
The CASILIST is now open in full capacity. We believe that we have
restored the CASILIST to its former greatness as we found a database
from last week. If anyone is having trouble with the CASILIST or not
getting the postings correctly, please e-mail us.
The CASICAM will be back up hopefully beginning tomorrow morning. We
have decided to go with the SnapCap software but until the time when
that can be purchased we will be using KSnap.
The CASI Weather Station continues to be CLOSED due to the fact that the
new installation of Windows95 on the CASI computer will not support a
network connection to the old computer, where the weather station is
housed. An expensive network card which will be supported by the main
CASI computer manufacturer has been ordered and should hopefully be
installed next week. I have also been in contact with a programmer who
is making an application which will do some sort of an automatic screen
capture of itself displaying WX-200 data. He is supposed to e-mail me
this application to beta-test next week.
The CASI Website development will slowly resume during the upcoming
weeks. A breakthrough in installation of the Optical disk drive on the
main computer has enabled us to reopen the CASILIST and is helping
nurture the system back to health despite the lack of a local network
connection.
The longest part of the process is going to be reinstalling and
reconfiguring all the software to get the same work area that we had
before.
CASI appreciates your patience as we get back to normal.
Now, enough about this depressing computer stuff! How about the
weather? That's what we're all here for. Just talking to some of you
during the last few days, I have heard:
No snow for Powell in Columbia SC ;(
2" of snow here at HQ, flurries since Saturday (Central PA)
4" of snow in Southern Pines, NC
2" of snow in Raleigh, NC
A little Snow for Shane in NE GA
