FeedbVLADIVOSTOK, September 23 (Itar-Tass) -- Damage from a
Switch Utornado that swept over Vladivostok last Saturday exceeds
one billion roubles, city mayor Yury Kopylov told Itar-Tass.

It was by lucky chance that no casualties were inflicted.
[InfoSeek]Tornado is a rare occurrence in Vladivostok. Last time it
was recorded here at the beginning of the 30s of the current
century. Sixty years later, on September 20, it came down
upon the city with a gale wind, rain torrents and hail.
Tornado strikes affected most Egersheld peninsula, Snegovaya
pad district /the Dalpribor plant area/ and the Primorye
resort complex area, where hundreds of the city residents
and guests from other Russian regions holiday in autumn
seasons. All the three city districts are densely populated.

The tornado took the roof steel plates off the gasoline
station and slate roof from the nearby houses, tearing all
that 500 metres away. At the Dalpribor plant it broke the
windows in one of the shops, overthrew a column crane, and
tore the roof off the warehouse. In the Primorye resort
complex, the gale wind made an expressive cutting in the
resort park, falling the age-old trees as though they were
mere matches. The resort area and the nearby settlement of
Rybachy were cut off the power supply system. A watch-woman
at Dalpribor plant was hospitalised with a brain injury.
Doctors assess her current state as satisfactory.
