One, strange weather yesterday here in PA... now if you don't live here
let me fill you in: we haven't had a thunderstorm since at least the
beginning of September. Heck, we've only had a couple days in the 60's
during the last month. Yesterday was the typical 40's when I went out
to lunch at 11am. It had been sunny, but suddenly I was faced with
several huge mammattus clouds to the south of State College, with no
(apparent) related storm. I marked that as strange but continued on
with my day. At 2pm, it was sunny again. Suddenly at 2:45 the sky
darkened, thunder rumbled, and heavy rain began. Something with the
consistency of sleet, but I suppose could have been small hail, fell
from the sky. A half-hour later everything was clear again. I
downloaded some weather data and will be performing an investigation
soon on this bizzare weather.
This morning we are looking at the possibility of light snow in the
area.
If you haven't been watching, The Weather Channel is hyping a "big
east-coast storm" for the weekend. They have been predicting this since
yesterday morning. If they are correct, batten down the hatches in the
Mid-Atlantic and Northeast! Could mean some serious snow for the
northern locations.
