This is about 30 miles N of my hometown of Newberry SC. Whitmire is
about 18 miles NE of Newberry on the Newberry / Union county line. By
the time I heard of it, it was too late to go after it.
Earlier this evening, the skies sorta cleared a bit to reveal some
mamatus and a blown off part of an Anvil that covered a majority of
the sky. It appeared the T storm was to my SW....I went inside for
no less than 15 minutes to get things ready for this storm. When I
went outside, ALL the clouds were ..... G O N E !!!
Earlier I went over to work to get schedule for next week. The sky
was wierd and ragged looking and IF there had been really strong
storms in the area, I'd have worried. When I left the building a fog
bank shaped like a dustnado was slowly drifting through trees. It
wasn't even rustling leaves. There were some scuddy looking clouds
that looked like a wall cloud. (It wasn't) When I got on I-20 and I
headed west and it looked really ugly, but not any rain or static on
the radio. I looked to my left and I saw something that made me
stop. I pulled off the Interstate and stopped as fast as I could.
This low bunch of whatever was slowly rotating ( I know better than
to get UNDER a rotating wall cloud, but I could tell it REALLY wasn't
but wanted the picture. NO, it immediately stopped. Got some of the
truck. Then Intellicast later said there was a mesocyclone just
north of Columbia....unless *I* missed that storm as well?
Nearly 3 inches of rain here.
