CASILIST: Radar images on the 'Net

I have had many requests about obtaining real-time NEXRAD images on the
Internet. If anyone has any comments or sites to add to this list,
please write in. Thus far, single-site NEXRAD radar images (not
including numerous local site university-restricted sites) are limited
to the following sites (that I know of):

Site...............................Cost....Timeliness...........Products
http://www.intellicast.com/ Free 1-hour Updates RP
http://www.weatherconcepts.com/ $5/mo* 15-Minute Updates RP
http://www.weather.net/ $10/mo 6-minute Updates** RPV****
http://www.dukepower.com/weather/ Free*** <15 minute Updates RPVX
http://www.weather.com/ Free 1-hour, Limited R*****

* - Cost is going up effective March to $8
** - 6 minute updates are promised, but from here at least it takes
at least that long to download one image because of the slowness
of the site or the network inbetween (Jan - Mar 1997)
*** - Site is restricted from all but a few sites (including *.edu)
**** - Velocity product supposed to be out 4/1, but nobody can find
it on the web site. This is typical of weather.net.
*****- Very limited site list.

R = Reflectivity
P = Precip
V = Velocity
X = Other

I've been with WeatherConcepts for a couple of years. Their reliability
and speed is excellent. I've tried WeatherNet several times, but have
been dismayed by a hard-to-navigate web site and extremely slow access
times.

Excluding DukePower, the WeatherConcepts or Intellicast images seem to
me to be the truest images (compared to a PUP).

I have heard that AccuWeather offers All NEXRAD products, for
~$70/month/site, I think. I assume this is only modem-dial to them, not
Internet.

Consequently, I have created a page at http://www.weatherwatchers.org/
in the Education section that details the workings and limitations of
NEXRAD radar for any of those who aren't already familiar with that.
