Here in Maple Creek, in south-western Saskatchewan, Canada, there's
been 3 days in June already with more than 10 mm of precipitation.
June 1st, there were 11 mm; June 3rd, there were 14 mm; and June 6th,
there were 66 mm. This is so unusual for the area that it was only 4
mm off breaking the station's all-time one-day record of 70.0 mm,
dating back to July 16, 1986. I haven't figured out how long the
station's been up yet, but the oldest record on the Canada Weather
Office's webpage of climate averages and normals is in 1951, so the
climate data dates back atleast those 54 years. The June average here
is 63.2 mm, and as of 4:00 CST this morning, we've already surpassed
100 mm, reaching 101. The average temperature for this time of June is
70 degrees F, and yesterday's high was only 55, tonight's low is
supposed to be 41 F after an overnight, morning and afternoon of
constant light rain. Just after 2 years ago here, some farmers didn't
even measure an inch of rain (25.4 mm) all summer. The drought then
was worse than those during the Great Depression. So far, no damage to
report, but local 55 mph wind gusts on the south side of town last
night, coming down from the northern slopes of the Cypress Hills (1500
feet higher than the station here) and a leaky roof in our apartment
where the light fixture is in the hallway.

Calgary, Alberta is expecting close to 80 mm today with a possibility
of 100 mm. The all-time one-day Calgary record, since records began in
1888 in Calgary, is 95.2 mm. And today's forecast high is 52 F, a full
18 deg. below the norm. Cypress Hills received 30-40 mm last night,
with locally heavier amounts on the northern slopes of 60 mm. At the
school I work at, a group of about 60 campers from Biggar who were on
the northern slopes of Cypress Hills had to come and stay in the gym
and library overnight. Cypress Hills is expecting 35-45 MORE mm, after
the storms were forecast to re-intensify early this morning.
