Parts of western Canada east of the Rocky Mountains got a taste of
summer on Thursday as temperatures rose into the 70s in southern
Alberta, southern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba. In Alberta,
Calgary set a high of 74 degrees; this reading was 25 degrees above
average and only 2 degrees under the record high for the date.
Edmonton's international airport peaked at 68 degrees, but 70 degrees
was reached near the city center. Regina, Saskatchewan, was a full 30
degrees above average and a mere one degree short of the record for
the date with its 73-degree high. Far southern Saskatchewan had
80-degree highs at Leader, Val Marie and Coronach.

Thursday, San Juan, Puerto Rico, finally got some rain. After
going 39 days without any measurable rainfall, the capital of this
island collected 0.3 of an inch of rain from a morning shower.

Seventy-two hour rainfall ended Friday morning was 10.8 inches at
Quibdo, western Colombia.

Very heavy rain soaked parts of southern Uruguay Wednesday night
and early Thursday. In Rocha, for example, rainfall was 7.6 inches
within 18 hours as of Thursday afternoon; this more than doubled the
average rainfall for all of April which is 3.4 inches. At the Carrasco
airport serving Montevideo, the national capital, 4.1 inches of rain
fell during the same time with these downpours surpassing the monthly
mean by 0.2 of an inch.

In eastern Argentina's Buenos Aires province, Thursday night
turned frosty cold in some parts. Tandil, for instance, registered an
overnight low of 28 degrees whereas the average daily low during April
is 48.

Parts of northern European Russia dawned bitterly cold on Friday,
especially considering that it's April. Saranpaul' was a full 40
degrees below average in plummeting to -26 degrees. Vorkuta and
Salekhard were about 30 degrees below average with their respective
lows of -26 and -23 degrees.

Typically moderated by breezes from the Atlantic Ocean, Agadir,
Morocco, has an average daily high of 77 degrees during April. On
Wednesday and Thursday, however, winds blowing offshore boosted the
temperature to 99 and 98 degrees, respectively.

Tropical Cyclone Adeline-Juliet remains a potent storm over the
South Indian Ocean. Early Friday morning, EDT, Adeline-Juliet wielded
top sustained winds of 105 mph about a center which was 620 miles
south-southeast of Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory. The
storm was moving westward at 17 mph. Adeline-Juliet was forecast to
change little in strength while on an open-water heading towards the
west-southwest during the next 48 hours.

Rainfall Thursday to Friday was locally heavy along the Coral Sea
coast of Queensland, Australia. At Mackay, rainfall was 3.2 inches
within 36 hours. This accounts for almost half of April's 6.6-inch
average rainfall.

In eastern Indonesia, 48-hour rainfall ended Friday morning, local
time, was 6.6 inches at Geser.
