April 7, 2005 12:19 a.m.

Tropical Cyclone Adeline-Juliet remains a potent storm over the
central South Indian Ocean. Early Thursday morning, EDT,
Adeline-Juliet wielded top sustained winds of 115 mph about an eye
which was 810 miles southeast of Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean
Territory, and 1040 miles to the west-southwest of Australia's remote
Cocos, or Keeling, Islands. The storm was moving west-southwestward at
17 mph. Adeline-Juliet was forecast to slowly weaken on an open-water
heading towards the west-southwest during the next two days.

Parts of southeastern Ontario, Canada, were unusually warm for
April on Wednesday. In Windsor, the sister city of Detroit, Michigan,
a high of 77 degrees was registered. Northward and at the southern tip
of Lake Huron, 76 degrees was reached at Sarnia. On Lake Huron's
southeastern shores, meantime, Goderich spiked to 71 degrees. These
three readings were about 25 degrees above average.

Rainfall was 11.9 inches at Saint-Georges de l'Oyapock, French
Guiana, within 96 hours ended Thursday morning. April lies at the
heart of the rainy season in this part of northern South America. In
Saint-Georges, for instance, April's average rainfall is 16.9 inches.

Very heavy rain soaked parts of southern Uruguay Wednesday night.
In Rocha, for example, rainfall was 4.1 inches within twelve hours as
of Thursday morning; this surpassed the average rainfall for all of
April which is 3.4 inches. At the Carrasco airport serving Montevideo,
the national capital, 3.2 inches of rain fell during the same time
with these downpours accounting for about 80% of the monthly mean.

High winds whipped tiny North Rona Island off northwestern
Scotland Thursday. Sustained winds blowing 50-70 mph were clocked for
about ten hours as of early afternoon, local time. These winds were
quite cold, too, with temperatures largely in the upper 30s.

In far southwestern India, heavy thundershowers left 5.2 inches of
rain within about 15 hours late Wednesday to early Thursday, local
time, in Cochin. This dousing was almost equal to April's average
rainfall here which is 5.5 inches.

Scattered downpours pelted the South Pacific island nation of
Vanuatu this midweek. On the island of Espiritu Santo, rainfall was
6.1 inches within 48 hours as of early Thursday afternoon, local
time, at the Pekoa airport near Luganville.

Typically moderated by breezes from the Atlantic Ocean, Agadir,
Morocco, has an average daily high of 77 degrees during April. On
Wednesday, however, winds blowing offshore boosted the temperature to
99 degrees. Early Thursday afternoon saw the temperature back to 94
degrees.

Stormy weather beset Canada's Vancouver Island in southwestern
British Columbia this midweek. Indeed, the island was ripped by high
winds locally reaching hurricane strength and was also soaked by heavy
rain. As of early Thursday morning, local time, rainfall was 6.8
inches within 54 hours at Estevan Point and 3.5 inches within 48 hours
at Port Alberni. Early Tuesday, tiny Solander Island off the
northwestern corner of Vancouver Island was lashed by sustained winds
that peaked near 75 mph and gusts that exceeded 95 mph at their
highest.

Strong, dust-laden winds blasted parts of southwestern Pakistan
Tuesday night to early Thursday, local time. At Nok Kundi, for
example, sustained winds blew 30-60 mph for more than 36 hours. The
high winds whipped dust and sand through the air thereby cutting the
visibility to as low as one-eighth of a mile.

Meanwhile, downsloping winds brought lip-chapping dryness to parts
of central western Pakistan Thursday. Thursday morning, local time,
Zhob showed a temperature of 61 degrees and a dew point reading of -44
degrees; this yielded a relative humidity of just 1%.
