since it began falling at around 10:00PM last night. Currently, it is
raining at just about 1.00"/hr., but it should taper off shortly according
to radar. Accuweather radar indicates up to 12" of rain has fallen in NW
NJ and the southern parts of upstate NY. Most of this rain makes its way
to the Delaware River. We have seen some devastating floods over the last
few years, but they may all pale in comparison to what is coming down the
river over the next 48 hours.
severe flooding in the wake of Tropical Storm Floyd in 1996. The flooding
from this rain event is forecast to compete with that flood, although it
should be just a bit less severe. It will likely cause thousands to
evacuate, and many to lose everything for the second time in less than 10
years. And that was a 1000 year storm, as the locals call it. Tonight and
tomorrow are sadly going to be memorable for many in the northern half of NJ.
