March 14, 2005 5:33 p.m.

Ingrid is strengthening anew over the Timor Sea after a brush with
northernmost Australia. Late Monday afternoon, EST, the eye of
Tropical Cyclone Ingrid is 170 miles west-southwest of Bathurst
Island, Northern Territory. Drifting towards the southwest at 5 mph,
Ingrid holds highest sustained winds of 130 mph. On its southwestward
heading, Ingrid`s trek over open water would be cut short by a
landfall on the Australian mainland as soon as Tuesday afternoon, EST.

The eye of Ingrid skirted the northern side of Melville and
Bathurst islands, Northern Territory, Sunday and Sunday night, local
time. The islands were dealt torrential rains, gales and hurricane
gusts. On the mainland, the city of Darwin had downpours and a few
wind squalls.

As of Monday, Tropical Cyclone Willy is breaking up off western
Australia.

It has been awhile since the last named tropical cyclone churned
the western North Pacific Ocean. Late Monday afternoon, EST, a
moderate tropical storm, not yet named, is near the western Caroline
Islands -- 90 miles north-northwest of Yap. The storm, with its 45-mph
top sustained winds, is heading towards the west-northwest at 9 mph.
The storm is forecast to be over the southern Philippine Sea Tuesday
and Wednesday.

A late-winter storm dumped at least 13 inches of snow upon
Bergen, Norway, Sunday into Monday. Highly moderated by the nearby
North Sea, Bergen more often gets rain, even in the depths of winter,
with bigger winter storms.

Helsinki, Finland, set a low of 3 degrees below zero early
Monday. This was the sixth sub-zero low thus far in March which
has been colder than usual by more than 11 degrees. Oddly, at no other
time this winter did the temperature drop below zero at the site of
observation; indeed, much of the winter was relatively mild.

Friday through Sunday, rainfall was 4.7 inches at Piskom in the
Ugam-Chatkal National Park of eastern Uzbekistan. Being at the foot
of the western Tianshan Mountains, that the site had only rain in a
big late-winter storm was somewhat unusual.

In northeastern Argentina and on the border with Uruguay, rainfall
was 5.2 inches within 48 hours ended Monday morning at Concordia. This
soaking accounted for a large part of March's 5.6-inch mean rainfall.

Heavy rains pelted portions of Bolivia Sunday and Sunday night.
Twenty-four hour rainfalls as of Monday morning were 6.1 inches at San
Borja, 4.1 inches in San Ignacio and 3.5 inches at Santa Cruz.

Monday morning felt more like the depths of winter than the
season's waning days in Canada from much of Ontario to northern
Manitoba and northern Saskatchewan. In Ontario, Lansdowne House set a
low of -28 degrees with this mark being almost 30 degrees below
average. Island Lake, Manitoba, was 25 degrees below average with its
low of -26. Falling a full 20 degrees below average was Key Lake,
Saskatchewan, which registered -25 degrees for a low.

Early Monday morning, local time, the wind chill reading was -114
degrees at Russia's Vostok station in East Antarctica. The air
temperature at the time was -72 degrees.

Parts of western South Africa have been caught in a heat wave
during recent days. In Vredendal, highs were 100, 101 and 101 degrees,
respectively, on Saturday, Sunday and Monday whereas average daily
highs in March are in the mid 80s.
