March 10, 2005 5:49 p.m.

Having already crossed the Cape York Peninsula of Queensland,
Australia, Tropical Cyclone Ingrid is back over water. Late Thursday
afternoon, EST, Ingrid is over the Gulf of Carpentaria; its center is
130 miles west of Aurukun, Queensland, and 230 miles east-northeast of
Alyangula, Groote Eylandt, Northern Territory. With highest sustained
winds of 70 mph, Ingrid is moving west-northwestward at 10 mph. The
cyclone is forecast to strengthen before landing for a second time in
northern Australia in northeastern Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, by
early Friday afternoon, EST.

Tropical Cyclone Willy, meantime, is plying waters of the Indian
Ocean off northwestern Australia. Late Thursday afternoon, EST, Willy
has top sustained winds equivalent to those of a minimal hurricane, 75
mph. Centered about 440 miles northwest of Port Hedland, Western
Australia, the storm is moving southwestward at 8 mph. Willy is
forecast to strengthen and to remain an open-water cyclone during the
next 48 hours.

Thursday was abnormally mild again in many parts of southern
Greenland. In the southwest, Kangerlussuaq rose to 51 degrees versus a
mean daily high of 8 during March. Farther to the south, Paamiut
(Frederikshab) was more than 30 degrees above average in reaching 56.
In the southeast, Angmagssalik spiked to 46 degrees with this mark
being about 25 degrees above average.

In northeastern Peru, rainfall was 4.5 inches within 30 hours as
of midafternoon Thursday at Iquitos. This dousing accounts for about
35% of March's mean rainfall here.

San Joaquin, northern Bolivia, was soaked by 10.5 inches of rain
within 24 hours ended midafternoon Thursday. These cloudbursts
exceeded the 8.2-inch average rainfall for all of March.

It's been windier than usual at Vostok, a Russian outpost on the
lofty ice cap of East Antarctica. Late Wednesday to early Friday
morning, local time, winds blowing 20-25 mph at temperatures generally
in the -40s and -50s whipped snow from the ground into the air,
thereby cutting visibility to about one-half of a mile. Early Tuesday,
the combination of wind and cold produced a wind chill reading of -111
degrees.

Khorram Abad, Iran, had over 1 inch of rain over the past 24
hours, making it nearly a normal month with just this rainfall. Nearly
1.3 inches of rain typically fall on the city during the entire month.
