With the help of 40º warmth this week, much of the snow cover has now
melted from Sunday's storm.
There were slick roads Sunday Night and Monday morning as moisture
refroze. Most school systems in the Shenandoah Valley east to the
Blatimore Washington area were on 2 hour delays Monday.
There were a few a problems caused by the ice & snow. There was a fatal
wreck in St. Marys Co MD Saturday evening. In the Richmond area, 6,000
were plunged into darkness by fallen limbs.
The 1" of snow and 3/4" sleet tht fell Sat night & Sunday brought my
January total to 3.75", about half the normal of 6.5". The January mean
temperature was 31.8º, or 2º above "normal". It was from a normal
month though.
In the first 2 weeks, highs were in the 60s on 5 days, the highest was
68 on the 13th,
It was below freezing on 8 days, including the stretch from the 21st to
the 24th.
Nightime lows were in single digits 3 nights. The lowest was 6.6 on the
24th.
On Thursday, a storm system will affect parts of southern & western VA
with snow. Snow advisories & Winter Storm Warnings are in affect for
parts of the state. The nearest included county is 60 miles to my
southwest. No snow is forecast here.
